The module provides learners with knowledge and skills required to understand immunity to pathogenic microorganisms and how this can be explored for vaccine development/apraisal. It describes host immune responses to parasites, bacteria, fungi and viruses, immune-evasion, immunopathology, immuno-regulation, principles underlying vaccination and extrinsic factors influencing these immune responses. Technologies used to study the immune system are also described.
