STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT
Trimester 1

This course introduces the key concepts, models, theories, principles, and tools of strategy formulation, implementation, evaluation and competitive analysis. The module develops the strategic thinking of students which focuses on  decision making abilities and actions to be taken , especially in relation to understanding the use of various strategies in different situations, that affect the performance and survival of business enterprises. The course is focused on required information and skills to be used by managers to develop strategies, position their businesses, identify firm boundaries and take full advantage of long-term profits in the face of uncertainty and competition. Strategic management module also  provides students with a broad view of business or organisation environment that includes employees, customers/buyers, sellers/suppliers, global market, technology, and competitors, to be able to understand the environmental and organisational interactions. Furthermore, this module allows the students to be open to emerging areas of interdisciplinary and integrative studies . It also involves building bridges between academic learning and labour market and business environment.

Learning outcomes

This module aims at imparting the knowledge and skills required by the students in managing organisation at managerial positions, thus learning outcomes of this module are the following: 

  1. Understand environment scanning of the industry in which they are operating in, the individual and business customers and their implications to the organization.
  2. Understand and formulate company’s direction
  3. Develop the strategy and competitive advantage of the organization to fit specific industry and company situations
  4. Applying business models and strategies in a Dynamic Environment.
Strenghtening Nursing and Health Care
RESTORED COURSES FOR MASTERS PROGRAM

The purpose of this module is to provide students with an in-depth understanding of advanced nursing practice leadership and its role in impacting healthcare in Rwanda. The course will explore such concepts as healthcare delivery systems, the role of the nurse leader in influencing health systems through policy, nursing practice standards and regulations, inter-professional collaboration, and continuous self-evaluation and self-development to achieve the desired national vision of a healthy population for Rwanda. The module will focus on the interrelationship of leadership and management roles used to address the complex microsystem issues in the healthcare environment. Using current events and trends in Rwanda and internationally, students will examine leaders in health and other areas to understand qualities necessary to transform themselves into effective nurse leaders capable to lead at home, work and in the community. 

Strengthening Nursing and Healthcare
Semester 1

The purpose of this module is to provide students with an in-depth understanding of advanced nursing practice leadership in the effort of strengthening nursing leadership capacity for Rwanda. Healthcare delivery systems, the role of the nurse leader, standards and regulations, inter-professional collaboration, and continuous self-evaluation to achieve the desired national vision of a healthy population for Rwanda.

Study of Major Literary Genres
Year 2

This module consists of 20 credits. It exposes you to major genres of literature such as oral tradition, some of creative nonfiction, fiction, poetry and Drama. You will explore some of the great literary writers – authors, poets, dramatists from diverse cultures and epochs in the world.  In each of these genres, you will have an opportunity to carry out literary analysis in the light of basic literary elements such as plot, character, setting and language use.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this module, you will be able to: 

Explain major genres of literature and why we study it.

Identify basic Literary generic elements. 

Explain how the main three genres of literature depict the past and present society.

Evaluate stylistic techniques used  in major literary works.

Analyse human values drawn from diverse works from any of the four major genres.

Conduct discussions on different authors from diverse cultures and epochs.

Create a literary work of your own.



Survey Sample Methods AY 2020
Semester 1

The module aims at introducing a set of principles of survey design that are the basis of standard practices in the field. It presents statistical concepts and techniques in sample design, execution, and estimation, and models of behavior describing errors in responding to survey questions.
•Introduction to survey methodology: need for survey sampling, terminology, notation, estimation strategy, survey errors, probability sampling and non-probability sampling;
•Inference and error in surveys;  
•Target populations, sampling frames and coverage error;  
•Sampling techniques: simple random sampling, systematic sampling, stratified sampling, cluster sampling, multi-stage sampling, unequal probability sampling;
•Basic inference for survey data: bias of estimators, inclusion probabilities, standard errors, finite population correction, variance estimation, confidence intervals, proportions, domains, ratio estimation, Horvitz-Thompson estimator, design-based inference,
•Specific topics in survey sampling: double sampling procedures, randomized response models, small area estimation, resampling methods,
•Analysis of survey data and illustration with statistical software.
At the end of the module, the students should be able:
•To know and understand the Principles of survey design;
•To know and understand the Methods of survey sampling;
•To know and understand the Data collection methods;
•To know and understand the Design of the questionnaire;
•To know and understand the Survey measurement;
•To know and understand the Randomized and non-randomized research design.

SWA1141: Utangulizi wa Lugha ya Kiswahili (DTP)
Semester 1

Moduli hii inahusu Utangulizi wa Lugha ya Kiswahili. Kwa hivyo, ni Moduli inayompa mwanafunzi ujuzi wa kutosha katika kuyaeleza maswala mbalimbali ya lugha na isimu kwa jumla. Ujuzi na uwezo utakaopatikana katika moduli hii utamsaidia mwanafunzi kufafanua kwa kiasi fulani maswala muhimu yanyohusiana na lugha ya Kiswahili na isimu  kwa jumla. Moduli inatarajia pia kueleza vipashio mbalimbali vinavyoijenga lugha, na hata kudhihirisha na kufafanua viwango vya uchambuzi na sifa za lugha kama mfumo wa mawasiliano ya wanadamu. Hivyo basi, viwango vya uchambuzi wa kiisimu na Historia ya Kiswahili vitazumguziwa ili kukidhi haja ya mwanafunzi ya kuelewa lugha na isimu kwa jumla.

Trimester 1

Somo hili ni la Utangulizi wa Lugha ya Kiswahili. Linazingatia dhana za lugha, mawasiliano, isimu, fonetiki na fonolojia ya Kiswahili na historia ya Kiswahili.

SWA1242: Utangulizi wa Fasihi ya Kiswahili (DTP)
Semester 2

Moduli hii itashughulikia utangulizi wa jumla wa fasihi ya kiswahili,  tangu karne ya 18 hadi sasa; kwa kurejelea misingi ya utamaduni, ambayo ni muhimu kuelewa kazi za fasihi. Moduli hii itapitia pia tanzu mbalimbali za fasihi ya Kiswahili, mjadala kuhusu sifa za tanzu hizo. Itapitia pia fani na maudhui ya kazi ya fasihi na uchambuzi wa matini teule za fasihi.

SWA 1343: MBINU ZA UZUNGUMZAJI NA UANDISHI KATIKA KISWAHILI

 MADHUMUNI YA MODULI:

Lengo kuu la Moduli hii ni kumpa mwanafunzi uwezo wa kuzungumza na kuandika Kiswahili fasaha kwa kuzingatia kanuni za uandishi na uzungumzaji. Hivyo, mwishoni mwa moduli hii, wanafunzi wataweza:

  • Kuandika kuhusu mada mbalimbali kwa kuzingatia kanuni za uakifishaji katika Kiswahili;
  • Kuzungumzia mada maalumu kwa kutumia lugha fasaha;
  • Kusikiliza taarifa mbalimbali katika matini tofauti na kubainisha hoja kuu zilizotolewa;
  • Kusoma kwa makini matini mbalimbali kwa kufuata kanuni za lugha ya Kiswahili;

Trimester 1

Moduli hii (SWA2141) inahusu Mofolojia ya Kiswahili. Ni moduli inayolenga kumwezesha mwanafunzi kufanya uchunguzi wa kina katika kueleza na kufafanua muundo wa lugha ya Kiswahili. Hivyo, Moduli hii inazingatia sehemu yenye kugusia kategoria za maneno ya Kiswahili au aina za maneno ya Kiswahili, Muundo wa nomino, vivumishi, viwakilishi na vitenzi. Aidha, ili kuelewa vizuri maumbo ya maneno ya Kiswahili moduli hii inazingatia pia sehemu itakayochunguza kanuni zinazotumika katika kuungabisha vipashio vidogo ili kuunda vipashio vikubwa vyenye maana na maneno katika Kiswahili.

Moduli hii ina sehemu kuu mbili: nathari bunilizi kwa sehemu ya kwanza na ushairi katika sehemu ya pili. Sehemu ya kwanza inazamia kwa ukamilifu nathari bunilizi hsususani riwaya ya Kiswahili, hadithi fupi andishi za Kiswahili pamoja na novela. Historia ya maendeleo ya nathari hizi bunilizi zinashughulikiwa ikiwa ni pamoja na sifa zake bainifu pamoja na uhakiki wake. Sehemu ya pili inahusika na ushairi. Mjadala kuhusu fasili ya ushairi, sifa bainifu za ushairi, maendeleo ya ushairi pamoja na uhakiki wa ushairi ni miongoni mwa mambo muhimu katika sehemu hii.

SWA3142: Maana na Matumizi ya Lugha
Trimester 1

Moduli hii ya SWA3142 inazingatia vitengo mbalimbali vinavyojihusisha na uwezo wa kuifinyanga lugha pamoja na kuitumia vilivyo katika miktadha mbalimbali. Vitengo hivyo ni pamoja na leskikolojia, leskikografia, istilahia, semantiki, pragmatiki na utungaji kamusi. Ili mwanafunzi afuatilie moduli hii anapaswa kupitia katika moduli zingine ambazo humpa mwanga kuhusu dhana mbalimbali za kiisimu na namna zinapofanya kazi, mofolojia pamoja na sintaksia. Lengo kuu la moduli ni kumsaidia mwanafunzi katika mchakato wa kuweka matendoni zile dhana na nadharia zote kimatumizi na kimaandishi.

Description

Course Purpose

To equip students with the knowledge of Surface Drainage, estimation of excess water on agricultural land, design, construction and management of ditches.

Intended Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, You should be able to;

  1. Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of major principles of drainage especially surface drainage, estimate drainage coefficient and flow rate of excess water from the farm land.
  2. Use the skills, techniques, practices and/or materials for runoff and excess water on farm land to design appropriate structures to divert the excess water from the field.
  3. Analyze, evaluate and synthesize issues, which are at the forefront of knowledge about the design, construction and management of drainage ditches.
  4. Demonstrate skills of life-long learning in the estimation of surface drainage and apply same on the field.
