Dear students,
Welcome to CGE 3265 ENVIRONMENTAL GEOTECHNICS AND BIOENGINEERING
The course is designed to introduce students to Environmental Geotechnics and bioengineering which is an informative and practical guide to the realities of land-based waste disposal and guide on how to utilize biological functions for the preservation and remediation of a global environment.
The main objectives
1. To disseminate knowledge and provides a fresh perspective regarding the basic concepts, theory, techniques and field applicability of innovative testing and analysis methodologies and engineering practices
3. To utilize biological functions for the preservation and remediation of a global environment.
2. To provide main concepts and information on environmental geotechnics (soil compaction, slope stability analysis, mechanical properties of geosynthetics, geotechnical aspects of landfill design and construction)
3. To conserve of resources via the recycling of waste materials

The course introduces students to the geologic survey and hydrologic factors controlling the occurrence, movement, and development of subsurface water. It will focus on two major aspects of groundwater, namely "groundwater as a resource" and "groundwater as a geotechnical problem". For groundwater as a resource, this course will focus on groundwater exploration, extraction, development, management, and protection from chemicals intrusion, whether they are naturally occurring or artificial pollutants. In regard to groundwater as a geotechnical problem, this module is designed to make students understand the impact of groundwater on geotechnical properties of soil, landslides, inflows under dams, inflows through tunnels, inflows into excavations, and to learn how to overcome such situations with geotechnical solutions. This module will make students understand the qualitative and quantitative analyses of the behavior of groundwater at local and regional scales and its impact on the geotechnical properties of soils in general.
This course aimed to equip students with different techniques used in analysis of Organic substances mostly. But, in some cases it can be applied to inorganic samples.
The techniques with will be discussed included the following :
1. UV-Visible spectroscopy
2. The Infrared spectroscopy
3.The Mass spectroscopy
4. The NMR 1D and 2D
5. The Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy
6. The Chromatography Techniques
This module deals with general concepts of chemistry and inorganic chemistry mainly atomic structure, chemical bonds, chemical and nuclear reactions and the periodic table.
This module aims to teach organic compounds comprising aliphatic compounds and aromatic compounds. The bulk of the course will consist of studying the properties and chemical reactions of the main functional groups of organic compounds, highlighting the practical importance of organic compounds in our daily life.

This course introduces you to two branches of chemistry called electrochemistry and analytical chemistry. Electrochemistry is the study of the exchange of electrical and chemical energy and has important applications in every life from the battery that powers your portable radios to electrorefining that produces the copper pipes carrying your drinking water. Those electrochemical processes utilize oxidation and reduction reactions.
Analytical chemistry is a branch of chemistry of making qualitative and quantitative analysis. This topic deals with the analysis of materials delivered to the laboratory by a customer. The material may be an unknown material to be identified and probably quantified. Carrying either of the two involves many steps which are outlined in this course. Analytical chemistry requires a broad background knowledge of chemical and physical concepts.
In this course we will start by presenting the general information on the aqueous solutions then the redox reactions, electrochemical cells, electolysis and corrosion phenomena. Analytical chemistry will start with topic 5 Which is the role of analytical chemistry and will continue with other topics including, analytical methodologies, theory of acid and base, stoichiometry and molar concept, buffer solution, salt hydrolysis, solubility products and some traditional methods of chemical analysis.
Welcome.
The course of Research Methodology aims:
• To facilitate a basic understanding of main principles, structure and methods of research to prepare research projects for B.Sc. Degree.
•It covers Principles and Concepts of Research, Research Tools and Methods, Structure and planning research, Literature review, Role of Data in Research, Statistical Techniques for Data Analysis, Research Budget and Resources. Proposal writing.
Welcome in Child care module dear students,
This module will focus on developing knowledge, skills and attitudes in the care of children in primary, secondary and tertiary settings. The module equips learners to utilize the nursing process when examining children responses to illness, treatment and hospitalization. It emphasizes on therapeutic relationship among nurses, parents, care givers, and children during illness and recovery, and the creation of child-friendly health facilities. In addition, its emphasis also is placed on common health problems occurring in Rwanda and in Sub Saharan Africa Countries.
This module deals with overall view of industrial processes, difference between industrial operations and laboratory operations, types of reactors and ancillary units, Industrial diagram, Security and quality control. It also deals with environmental problems inducted by industrial process such pollution; greenhouse effect and global warming, CO2 emission, water pollution and their consequences. Industrial wastes management, etc.
The module deals with models of the electronic structure of the atom from the early models to modern quantum mechanics models, the periodic classification of the elements, the chemical bond and its properties, study of s & p block elements and the introduction to nuclear chemistry.
This module aims at equipping year one students with general and basic concepts of chemistry. It deals with basic chemistry concepts related to states of matter, dimensional analysis, atomic structure and models, effect of electronic structure on periodicity of the elements, chemical bonding theories, chemical and nuclear reactions. In addition, it focuses on the chemistry laboratory safety and apparatus.
Welcome to this module entitled: CHE1242-Mathematics for Science. The module deals with notions of mathematics such as calculus, statistics and probability used to help students to understand some chemical notions and to solve some related problems.
This module deals with organic compounds including hydrocarbons, oxygenated compounds, nitrogenous compounds, benzene and polymers.
Registration code
To access any content of this module, you should register to it using the code 2020.
In first time, the module studies the nomenclature, the physical and chemical properties, and the preparation methods of saturated and unsaturated aliphatic and alicyclic hydrocarbons, of benzene hydrocarbons and the organic compounds with simple and multiple functions. After the module will deal with the generalities on the structure and the properties of the macromolecular compounds known as polymers.
This course aims at providing to year one students in the program of geology the essential of theoretical and practical foundations for the analysis of chemical reactions in solution (analytical chemistry). It provides necessary tools to apply in qualitative and quantitative analyses of different types of samples. It covers different aspects of titrimetric methods of analyses.
Welcome to CHE1344, the module will be dealing with two main parts:
1. Chemical thermodynamics and
2. Chemical kinetics
The module includes some mathematics and physics. It is good to remind on how to use calculus, derivatives and differential.
Good luck!!
