Finally, the course expose students to the school life experience. 

Demographic Techniques I
Trimester 3

The module introduces students to the basic techniques of formal (statistical) demographic analysis. All demographic sub-fields will be covered at a basic level: marriage, fertility, mortality, population growth, migration, as well as techniques and purpose of standardization and evaluation of data.

The module also aims at familiarizing students to theories of the interrelationship between population, resources and development as well as to the complexities of interdisciplinary nature of population and economic development, and to population policies.

Welcome to AST3147 Demographic Techniques II. My name is Pierre Claver Rutayisire, Senior Lecturer of Demography and I am the Module Leader for this course.
I presume that for many of you, this is your first experience with an online course and more specifically with this UR E-learning platform. Online courses provide a different way to study and place different skills from students. In this process, self-motivation and discipline are key to success. This means that you are completely responsible for establishing and maintaining a regular study system.  You will be responsible for the same course materials and the same standards of excellence that are required in the face to face courses. DES1161: Design Theory
Semester I

 Welcome to Design Theory. This course introduces you to the fundamentals of Art and Design, that is, elements and principles. You will understand and apply the elements and principles of art and design in all courses offered in the Department of Architecture and Design. You will also acquire the basic vocabularies (the technical language) of the subject. Generally Design Theory is the backbone of all courses and compulsory to all students of design regardless of prior knowledge and skills of the module contents. Have fun!

DES1262: Introduction to Digital Media

This course provides an introduction to the principles, tools and techniques used in creating digital content. Students will delve into different design concepts and technologies and acquire essential skills in their application. Through hands-on projects and practical exercises, students will gain experience with various tools and software, and develop an understanding of the creative and technical aspects of digital media.
DESIGNS AND ANALYSIS OF EXPERIMENTS
Semester II

The current course is designed to initiate and train students in statistics option who are keen is acquiring skills in designs and analysis of experiment. This entire material for this course is extracted from Douglas C. Montgomery, Design and Analysis of Experiments, Eight edition, John Wiley & Sons, Inc; USA, 2013. At the end of this course, students are expected to be able to:

  1. Design an experiment in various fields, including agriculture, health, pharmacology, clinical drug tests, industry, etc.
  2. Conduct effectively the analysis of variance (ANOVA);
  3. Replicate the experiment conducted for validation and robustness of results.

Computer labs shall be organized, and this will be done following the reference of John Lawson, Design and Analysis of Experiments with R, CRC Press, Taylor and Francis group, USA, Chapman and Hall Book, 2015.

This course was created for you to develop your competences for success in online learning. The course covers basic ICT literacy, communication in an online learning environment and finding and evaluating the credibility of online resources. In this course, you will engage with the course content presented at different online pages, learning activities as well as interactive quizzes. You will also be able to discuss the content and any other aspect of the learning with your peers in the course forum. More specifically, you will learn:

  • how to use learning technologies confidently and critically to achieve your study or continuing professional development
  • how to identify areas of study strengths in preparation for becoming an online learner
  • how to explore and reflect on skills that are valuable for online study
