  • This module is intended to introduce MPH students with necessary skills for strategic planning, developing and analysing health policies, monitoring and evaluation of health projects and public health programmes in order to improve people’s health.The module also provides basic professional skills in health economics and financing. Students are expected to conduct an assessment of health policies and interventions and discuss the use of evidence for data-driven decision making in health management and policies. The goal is to increase students’ knowledge and ability to analyse and address health issues from both management and policy perspectives.

    Learning outcomes:

    1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of concepts of (1) strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation of health programmes; (2) development and implementation of health policies; (3) health economics and market failure; (4) Universal health coverage and financial protection.
    2. Develop a monitoring and evaluation plan using a logical model/logical frame.
    3. Apply major economic concepts of supply, demand, monopoly, monospsony, adverse selection, and moral hazard to health.
    4. Conduct the analysis of policy process and policy content.
    5. Conduct systematic analysis and compare health financing systems.
