  • In this chapter, will help to understand how a computer works and all its advantages and disadvantages.

    • Define what computers are and identify different types of computers.

    • Identify Central Processing Unit, Input Devices, Output Devices, Storage Devices, Software types,Operating Systems

    • It responds to a specific set of instructions in a well-defined manner.
    • It can execute a prerecorded list of instructions (a program).
    • It can quickly store and retrieve large amounts of data.

  • Using the Computer and Managing Files:

    Introduction:

    Using a computer and Managing files is organizing and keeping track of files and folders. Windows allows you to organize folders and files in a file hierarchy, imitating the way you store paper documents in real folders.

    Learning Objectives

    In this Chapter you will cover the following:

    • Determine what operating system you use in your computer.
    • Manage multiple windows.
    • Use keyboard shortcuts to perform tasks.
    • Navigate the Start menu to locate programs, files, and settings.
    • Create files and folders.
    • Organize files and folders.
    • Delete and restore files and folders using the Recycle Bin.

    Learning Outcome.

    At the completion of this task, you will be able to:

    • Start shut down and restart the computer.
    • Understand the Desktop Environment.
    • Starting and quitting a program and opening a document.
    • Getting help and Organizing files and folders.
    • Finding files and folders on your computer.
    • Starting a program by using the run command and Working within documents (cut, copy, paste).

    Objectives
    • Create, edit, save, and print documents to include documents with lists and tables.
    • Format text and to use styles.
    • Add a header and footer to a document.
    • Add a footnote to a document.
    • Add a graphic to a document.
    • Manipulate documents using functions such as find and replace; cut, copy, replace

    • Select and work with text in a document
    • Use a range of font formatting techniques and Format paragraphs
    • Fork effectively with features that affect the page layout of your document
    • Create and modify tabs and tables
    • Insert and work with clip art and pictures
    • Use the mail merge wizard to perform mail merges

    Microsoft Excel is an electronic spreadsheet. You can use it to organize your data into rows and columns. You can also use it to perform mathematical calculations quickly.

    In this unit, You will study how to:
    • Indicate the names and functions of the Excel interface components.
    • Enter and edit data.
    • Format data and cells.
    • Construct formulas, including the use of built-in functions, and relative and absolute references.
    • Create and modify charts.
    • Preview and print worksheets.
    At the end of the course, participants are expected to know how to use Microsoft Excel to:·
    • Enter text and numbers in a spreadsheet.
    • Enter Excel formulas.
    • Format data.
    • Create Excel functions.
    • Fill cells automatically.
    • Print results.
    • Create Charts.
    • Enter advanced Excel formula.

    • Preparing text, Drawings and Graphics.
    • Format presentations.
    • Slide Animations
    • Adding clip art, adding an image from a file.
    • Editing a graphic, Auto Shapes & WordArt, Slide Effects, Action buttons,
    • Slide transitions, Slide show options.
    If you do well in this Chapter, you should be able to:
    • Identify the names and functions of the PowerPoint interface.
    • Create, edit, save, and print presentations.
    • Add a graphic to a presentation.
    • Create and manipulate simple slide shows with outlines and notes.
    • Create slide presentations that include text, graphics, animation, and transitions.
    • Use design layouts and templates for presentations.
    • Create a PowerPoint presentation.
