This 20 credit module aims at developing English proficiency based on students’ areas of study with a view to helping students develop English language skills that will allow them to communicate professional skills and perform particular field-related functions through the practice of the four language communication skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing with focus on the English for Medicine. Integrated Skills approach will be applied, i.e. it will use combined listening, speaking, reading, writing and grammar skills based on upper intermediate and advanced level materials selected from students’ areas of study. Summarising the selected material plus the ability to explain and defend the selected information will also be tackled. Students will be exposed to functional language from elementary to advanced level used in the following situations: giving advice, making requests, apologising, giving bad news, agreeing, disagreeing, disagreeing strongly, offering, asking for opinions, giving opinions, talking about weather, talking about sickness, patient management process- language focus etc.

Description
This module introduces to the students about the role and significance of accounting information and the fundamentals of basic accounting procedures, accounting principles, accounting concepts, assumptions and conventions, accounting cycle, which are involved in the production of a business entity’s financial statements. It is enabling the students to understand the basic language of the business, accounting as a science in addition to gain knowledge of recording of business transactions, measurement of business performance and the assessment of financial position of the organizations.
This module introduces to the students to the planning and execution of audit
and assurance engagements, familiar with legal and professional requirements of
an audit and assurance assignment, identify relevant risks, assessment and
review of client’s systems, corporate governance issues as well as generation of
audit assurance reports and embrace ethical approach to audit and assurance
work
The module aims at introducing to students the important elements and aspects of tax system and authorities and their limits; familiarizing the students with the Income and Sales Tax Laws in Rwanda and equipping the students with necessary skills to deal with the situations concerning the field of taxation

This module introduces the students to the principles of auditing, legal and professional environment of an audit, designing and developing of an audit plan, programme and working papers. Also designing and implementation of audit procedures, performing audit in computerized environment as well as preparation of audit reports.

Advanced Financial Accounting is an important course for students specializing in accounting or any other person who may be interested in the topics covered. This course covers specialized accounts; each topic does not depend on the other. The topics include: piecemeal distribution of cash, amalgamation of partnership firms, sale of a partnership, conversion of a partnership into a limited company, accounting for branches both home and foreign branches, consignment accounts, accounting for insurance claims for both loss of sock, buildings etc on account of fire risk and loss of profit during the period operations are stopped or are not going on well because of fire, accounting for hire purchase, accounting for royalty and lease, accounting for insolvency, bankruptcy and liquidation of companies.
