This 20 credit module aims at developing English proficiency based on students’ areas of study with a view to helping students develop English language skills that will allow them to communicate professional skills and perform particular field-related functions through the practice of the four language communication skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing with focus on the English for Medicine. Integrated Skills approach will be applied, i.e. it will use combined listening, speaking, reading, writing and grammar skills based on upper intermediate and advanced level materials selected from students’ areas of study. Summarising the selected material plus the ability to explain and defend the selected information will also be tackled. Students will be exposed to functional language from elementary to advanced level used in the following situations: giving advice, making requests, apologising, giving bad news, agreeing, disagreeing, disagreeing strongly, offering, asking for opinions, giving opinions, talking about weather, talking about sickness, patient management process- language focus etc.
