MN80262 Fundamental of Geophysics
Semester 2

This course is designed to provide undergraduate geology and mining students with a foundational understanding of the physical principles and quantitative methods used to investigate the Earth's interior, structure, and dynamic processes. By integrating concepts from seismology, gravity, magnetism, heat flow, and electrical properties of rocks, students will learn how geophysical techniques are applied to image subsurface geology, identify mineral and energy resources, and assess geological hazards. Emphasis is placed on developing problem-solving skills, interpreting real-world geophysical data, and understanding the strengths and limitations of various survey methods thereby equipping future geologists and mining engineers with the essential geophysical toolkit needed for exploration, environmental assessment, and sustainable resource management.
