This module MES6246 aims to assist science and mathematics educationists to understand issues underlying reform efforts in education. It explores current trends and issues in science and mathematics education across developed and developing world.
The module explores current trends and issues in science and mathematics education across developed and developing world. It covers issues including: Philosophy and historical basis of science/ mathematics education, Nature of science/ mathematics and its relation with teaching and learning, Science / Mathematics literacy, Current developments in science / mathematics education, Critical analysis of current trends and issues in teaching and learning science/mathematics, Critical thinking, Problem solving and Investigation in science / mathematics, Paradigms in science/ mathematics education, Science / mathematics education in different contexts.
It is expected that by the end of the module, students will be able to:

(i) engage critically into discussion on Philosophies which underpin science / mathematics education and its historical developments ; (ii) identify the current trends and issues in teaching and learning science / mathematics; (iii) explain the characteristics of different paradigms which frame science / mathematics education; and (iv) apply methodologies which characterise research in science / mathematics education. |
