HRT4122 Research Project I
Semester 1

This module equips students with the knowledge and skills required to develop a sound, well-structured and scientifically justified research proposal in crop production and horticulture. It covers the identification and formulation of research problems, development of research objectives and questions or hypotheses, review of relevant scientific literature, and justification of proposed research. Students learn to select appropriate research designs, experimental methods, sampling procedures, data collection techniques and statistical analysis approaches that align with their research objectives. The course also addresses research planning, budgeting, work scheduling, ethical considerations and academic writing. Emphasis is placed on integrating scientific evidence, identifying knowledge gaps and designing feasible, relevant and methodologically sound research projects that address practical challenges in crop production and horticulture. By the end of the course, students should be able to prepare and present a coherent research proposal that provides a strong foundation for conducting independent scientific research.
