Welcome to the Environmental Geography (GE80441) module. This course explores the Earth as an integrated system and examines the complex relationships between humans and the natural environment. Aims of the Module
The module aims to:

Brief Indicative Content of the Module
The module covers foundational concepts and terminology in environmental geography and ecology, followed by ecosystem structure and functioning, including energy flow, food chains, and biogeochemical cycles. It then explores the global distribution and characteristics of major biomes and the factors influencing them. The course further examines environmental degradation, including its causes, types, and impacts such as pollution and biodiversity loss. It also addresses environmental management and protection strategies, emphasizing sustainable practices and international frameworks guided by the United Nations. Finally, the module contextualizes these topics within Rwanda, focusing on national environmental challenges, policies, and pathways toward sustainable development
