GE80342: Geography of Rwanda
Semester 1

This module aims at providing basic knowledge and understanding of physical aspects of Rwanda such as geological background, rocks, topography and landforms, climate, drainage, soils; and vegetation. It also focuses on the study of population, natural resources, the sectors of activities (primary, secondary and tertiary including agriculture, industry and mining, transport and communication, tourism, and the international trade, the consumption of goods and services and their spatial dimensions and variations. The module provides enough information on regional integration and international cooperation of Rwanda with other countries. It may have a look on the hindrance of Rwandan development and future perspectives of the country. 

Learning outcomes

The module is set to help students to:

Describe the physical and human geography of Rwanda, including its natural features, resources, and population characteristics.

Analyze the interaction between physical, human, and economic aspects of Rwanda and how they influence national development.

Apply geographical knowledge to solve environmental and socio-economic problems and support sustainable development initiatives.

Use appropriate practical and ICT skills (e.g., data analysis tools, mapping, and research techniques) in studying and teaching Geography.

Demonstrate critical thinking, environmental responsibility, and the ability to work collaboratively in addressing real-world geographical challenges.
