CMC3151: Internal Medicine for Clinical Medicine
TRIMESTER 2

Internal Medicine is one of the main specialties that introduce students to other specialties like Pediatrics, Surgery, Gynecology and Obstetrics done in different years of study. The term internal medicine describes a combination of investigative science approach and patients’ care. It’s a science that deals with health disorders and their management. It involves application of scientific knowledge and clinical expertise to diagnose, treat, and provide  compassionate care to adults across the spectrum from a healthy to complex illness.

This course builds on the general concepts of anatomy and physiology, Pharmacology and CIDM (Biomedical laboratories and Imaging) services to have students exposed and show the ability to identify the right diseases for management. The skills learned from this course shall be applied in all other medical disciplines where drugs and medicines are applicable in the management of patients. 

CMC3253: Surgery for Clinical Medicine
TRIMESTER 1

This is one of the main specialized modules done in year three of Clinical Medicine Student whose pre-requisites are Internal Medicine and Clinical Investigation & Decision Making. The purpose of this module is to equip student with knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to manage common surgical conditions.

CMC4152: Community Placement
TRIMESTER 1

Welcome to this Community Health Practice module (40 credits) for Clinical Officers’ trainees.  Community health practice is composed of health center management practice and community health practice in the health center catchment area. In the health center, students mainly learn about the health center management, HMI S, Health packages in the context of the Rwandan health care system and health sector policy, Financial management of the health center, Social health insurance among others. Then, outside the health facility, students visit and assess households, markets, inspect water sources etc all considered under the "community health assessment process". Students have a responsibility to abide by policies within placement site and service centers. The students carry out the actives collaboratively with Health center and Sector staff responsible for community/environment health, Community Health workers, village leaders and CMCH department staff. 

Aim: To help you apply acquired knowledge from the theory of community health and related modules in assessing the community, plan, implement and evaluate interventions. It is hoped the skills gained from the practice will result into a Clinical Officer who is competent in Community Health and Management of Health facilities.

Learning Outcomes

 Professional competencies related to health center management:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Rwandan Health care system and relevant health policy at the health center and community level
  • Familiarize with the health center management such as human and material resources, service delivery, HMIS, SHI  
  • Promotion and maintenance of team-work among colleagues and health facility staff
  • Carry out effective IEC/health education at the health center using different methods and materials.

 Community health knowledge, skills, and attitude to:

  • Identify vulnerable groups in the community, their needs and plan for appropriate interventions.
  • Participate actively in the planning, implementation and evaluation process of Primary Health Care, Community-Based Health Care and other national programmes.
  • Use the principles of epidemiology to control communicable and non-communicable diseases.
  • Provide health education to patients, special groups and the community in the catchment area.
  • Carry out preventive, promotive and rehabilitative health services, including management of maternal and child health and reproductive health services and the screening of cases for referral.
  • Participate in health research

CMC4251: Paediatrics & Clinical Medicine
TRIMESTER 2

Pediatrics is one of the specialized module done by clinical officers.  It is a 15 credit modules done in year IV during trimester II. It involves both theory and practical sessions. The aim of teaching this course is to enable the you to acquire necessary competencies in the management of diseases conditions in young Children. Units to cover include: Introduction to Pediatrics, Infectious Diseases, Non Communicable Diseases, Organelle Diseases and Other (non specific condition)

The present module, Innovative Teaching methods for Mathematics and Science (CMCS1141), is a 10 credit units module with three parts,. These include Innovative Teaching Methods for Mathematics and Science in Ordinary level (Part I), Selected topics for Chemistry in Ordinary level (Part II), and Chemistry Experiments in Ordinary level (Part III). This course is only focusing on chemistry laboratory experiments  (Part III) composed of 8 units that are organized in various sections.

About this module

 

This module is a reference material for the Career Orientation and development . It Comprises practical exercises that will be used by students to bridge any Knowledge, Attitude of Experience Gaps that students may exhibit when they attend career orientation guidance sessions.

The module  has three   each with a number of Sessions.

The first   is finding your unique strengths that are composed of three sessions, which are Orientation to career guidance and Counseling, Personal Unique Selling Proposition and Goal Setting.

The second   is Exploring Career in Employment. It is designed for students who plan  to seek for employment at the end of their University studies. It has five sessions: Networking for your Career, Determining What Employers Want, Preparing for Interviews, Interviews Dress Rehearsal and Planning for Your Work Experience.

The third  is the last one and is Exploring Career in Entrepreneurship. It is designed for students who identified that they want to step into entrepreneurship as their career. The Module has five sessions: Entrepreneurship Skills, Mapping Your Asset, Business Ideation, Solving Your Customers Problem and Developing Your Business Model

Communication is a very important element in the lives of all living things. It has been proved that all living things communicate to enable them live together and carry out their day to day activities. In the lives of human beings, communication is categorized in four main sections: speaking, listening, reading and writing. There are numerous debates that have shown that listening and speaking are the first communication skills acquired by human beings. Between listening and speaking it is not clear which is the first skill developed by human beings. Again, between reading and writing, it is not clear which communication activity comes first. Details of how we speak, listen, read and write have been presented in this module. The exercises within the module will help to make the content clearer.
COE 3262: DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING
Trimester 2

This course introduces the digital signal processing (DSP) concepts, time-domain and frequency domain analysis, digital filter design techniques and finite word length effects. It also introduces the DSP processor kits and basic DSP operations with them.
